  • MOLD MAKING

A Key to Casting Fidelity

At Carrera Casting, meticulous attention is paid to each and every stage of manufacture. Mold-making is a particularly delicate process, and Carrera has it down to a science. Many times the type of rubber that is used to cut your molds will greatly affect your finished product. That is why we offer many differant types of rubber, depending on your speceific needs. We will always be available to help you choose which rubber is best suited to your design.

Regular Mold

Utilizes Castaldo White Label rubber material, the industry standard for over 50 years. A good all-purpose mold rubber that cuts well, and is nicely suited for most molds - <2.75% Shrinkage

Mixed Mold

Utilizes a combination of rubbers, with Blue Lo-Shrink Rubber placed directly in contact with the model. Used when very low shrinkage is required. This material is forgiving, not as temperature sensitive, and accurately captures fine detail with excellent "memory" - < 2.4% Shrinkage

Hard Rubber

Utilized when the objective is keeping small, delicate parts in place <3.2% Shrinkage

VLT Rubber

Vulcanized silicon. This rubber produces excellent detail, great surface with very low shrinkage. -<1.65% Shrinkage.

Silicon Rubber

Cures at room temperature. Great for creating molds from traditional wax carvings or when minimal shrinkage is required. Liquid rubber requires an overnight cure - <1% Shrinkage

Clear Silicon

A two-component, room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone rubber compound. Ideal for reproducing intricate detail and maintaining close tolerances. Used specifically for CAD/CAM models such as Solidscape < 1% Shrinkage

G-Rubber

The new kid on the block. A combination of hard and soft rubber. Allows production of extremely lightweight, delicate and filigree pieces without overfilling < 1% Shrinkage.
